Download cisco ios without a service contract

This has always been their policy that you need a SMARTnet contract for software updates, except for some of their switches Catalyst which have lifetime hardware warranty and updates. Otherwise you need a contract for the updates. However they have changed their site so now you software options are limited to what you have a contract for. This is not some underhanded move, but rather just fixing a glaring hole that they had with their site.

Most companies do this as well. Juniper, Sonicwall, Cisco, just to name a few. Cisco support can be costly and should be taken into account for the cost of the product over its lifetime. I might also add that Cisco IOS is restricted by export regulations because of the cryptographic functionality. So, Cisco has to restrict access to it so as to not inadvertently export it to a banned country.

I think that if you sell a piece of networking hardware, that as a show of commitment to the customer you should have all the versions of firmware for that device available for download from your site for no extra fee. Just my opinion. It has always been that you were supposed to have SmarNET contracts on the equipment before downloading the IOS firmware for the device. Sure you can find cheaper solutions, but when it comes down to it, try getting in touch with their support at AM when your core router crashes.

SmartNET has saved my ass several times, once on a Sunday afternoon Cisco had replacement routers out to me within four hours - unbelievable. Installed, config blown in, running and back in bed by 5AM. To continue this discussion, please ask a new question. Get answers from your peers along with millions of IT pros who visit Spiceworks. Many thanks for this; I can also say that as of 17th May , this still works. I sent an email to TAC with the information as above; was contacted by an engineer and advised of which software build I should get. As of March , this still works. Cisco creates a TAC case and one gets an engineer assigned.

They publish the IOS to your cisco account for 3 days to download. Thank you guys very much!! March , still works! I did the same process for my ASA that was running in 8. Cisco support gave me the 9. I emailed them 6 days ago and again 2 days ago. I had two separate tickets in to TAC engineers for a Cisco router and a 8-port switch.

My first email this morning was sent late last night after midnight. They got back to me a few hours later and the back and forth emails started at about when I woke up this morning. Just now, at about 4PM I downloaded both IOS images for both devices after they sent me a special link to download them.
