I can download games from Steam. Can surf the internet but cant connect to any servers in games online. Can surf internet but cant login to game servers; solved Internet Speed is fine but. I have my games download to a separate hard drive on my computer, dedicated to storing files, and my OS and Steam Client are on an SSD. U have Steam from your other OS, correct? That is all u will need. Never need to "install" it. Steam Client is one of the very few apps that can work like that.
All u need is the Steam. This is why "Upgrade" is not a good option. Anything from your previous OS could be the result of such issues. Go back to that old Steam folder; right click Steam.
If that works I can help u further. However, if your Steam Client is having that issue; u can rest assured most likely alot of other previously installed stuff will to.
This is just a thought I had bud. It's your OS upgrade being broken. Either do a clean install, or try: 1. Google the details if these tools aren't familiar for you. Last edited by Dusk of Oolacile ; 1 Aug, pm. Hey guys, doing a Clean Install seemed to do the trick. I was able to run SteamSetup. So yes the OS upgrade is incredably broken.
Make sure not to delete the steamapps folder, it'll take a long time for you to reinstall all your games. Last edited by butter figers ; 16 Nov, am.

I think what they did was optimized the files to where they took up less space, because L4D2 used to be over 12 GB, and now it's only 7GB. Seems the only way for Steam Client to update such games was via the verify Cache' button or a complete reinstall. The verification cache' menu, won't exit until the game is fully updated. So, if it happen to need to download 7 Gigs to make it fully updated, you won't be able to minimize the verify cache' menu until it's finishes downloading and installing those 7 gigs of data.
So, your Steam Client is tied up until it finishes or unless you cancel. As for your stuff about updates. Steam updates only work with steam games, and steam updates aren't available in file format.
They are all managed by Steam. Retail updates aren't compatible, and if you've tried to install a retail update into a steam game then that's likely why you're running into problems. So, to uninstall your games I suggest to first use the "delete local content" on the right click pulldown menu.
Then when it's done, manually delete all the rest of the files that are in the game's directory which is located in As to reinstalling Steam Client. Delete all the files and folders in your Steam directory except for the Steamapps foldier, and Steam. Then double click on Steam. Steam Client will redownload and reinstall itself.
